VM, inexplicably...
Today I am, randomly, feeling incredibly nostalgic for Veronica Mars. Sure, it sucked after season one and, tobequitehonest, even parts of s1 were a bit ropey. But, for a while, it was the show of my heeeart. I identify with Rob Thomas as a writer so much. I swear, RT is fucking huge UC 'shipper: so many parts of VM scan as "man, these two should totally, nonsensically hook up". There were incredible sparks (not necessarily romantic sparks) between even the most unlikely characters.

I was reading some of the fic I wrote for the show (mmm, narcissism! ;) and it reminded me of how gloriously those characters inhabited my brain for a while. It was the summer I worked as an exam invigilator (yeah, that person who hands you extra paper when you're sitting your GCSEs) and I spent practically all my time at work writing VM fic (...professional!).

I wonder what Rob Thomas is doing these days. *timelapse* Answer: apparently he's adapting NZ tv shows. o__O

Semi-relatedly: I think I want to see Mamma Mia. :/ Damn you, Amanda Seyfried for being so beautiful in the print ads.

I ♥ my flist
My friends list is so full of awesome when I checked it after being asleep I have to share it with you all.

Because [info]calapine has corrected the very wrong Telegraph list of the Top 10 Greatest Doctor Who Stories. How can it be correct when there isn't a single Troughton episode??

And [info]trollprincess is looking for fantastic women in history (rarely are they well behaved).

And then there is the funniest Stolen Earth vid I've seen. There is singing to the tune of Hello, Dolly!

In short: the best "I Had To Sleep" friends list until tomorrow, when I will wake up to spoilers and summaries for the Doctor Who finale.

And now I will be heading off to watch the 1995 Pride and Prejudice while starting an Illegal Soft Toy I want to have finished by Partners in Crime tomorrow evening.

Just when you think I've stopped talking about Hollyoaks, I start again... mwahaha--sorry :/
I'm not even gonna lie, I am stupidly happy to see Guy Burnet back on the set of Hollyoaks. Craig Dean is a crazy, narcissistic fucker -- but I love him.

Much as John Paul's random affair with a priest has been... well, random, but also occasionally pleasing, I am really much more interested in what Craig's been up to in the last year. Has he been dating boys in Dublin? Has he told his new friends about his ~*best and only friend at home*~? Is he still crazy? (My bet: yes.)

Man, I'm excited for Craig's return. :D

P.S. Unrelatedly! Now Gym Class Heroes are also touring the UK this September -- at exactly the same time as Cobra and TAI! but! not! together! Madness. Some kids are gonna have a very FBR week. ;)

art: Gossip Girl (I hope the next boy that you kiss has something terribly contagious on his lips.)
Many, many eons ago back when Alias was good, I used to make wallpapers. And then it stopped being good so I stopped watching and have been uninspired ever since. Plus, I'M LAZY LIKE THAT. However, summer tv is so bleak this season and, at 1am, after I've just finished watching an episode of the hilariously cheesy Iron Man cartoons, I still wasn't very sleepy. Since Lifetime wasn't showing a crappy tv movie with a 90210 alum or Kellie Martin (for shame, Lifetime!), I found myself messing with photoshop. I was listening to a lot of Coheed & Cambria as I made this so naturally, it has Brand New lyrics. Yeah, I don't know either.

1024x768

I kind of like the way it came out (toot toot!), but I'm sure that'll change in like an hour when I decide that it's fug. I'M FICKLE THAT WAY. You know the drill: don't alter, don't hotlink, comment to let me know what you think, etc.

The Hush Sound
Hmmm. I watched this video interview with The Hush Sound. It's pretty interesting in general -- Bob and Greta met when they went to see Monsters Inc with mutual friends! hee! -- but most interesting is the fact that the band contemplated splitting up after their second album.

If this is common knowledge, I didn't know about it. In fact, I found it pretty shocking. Because the Hushies are, like, GOOD and stuff. They're really talented. The album that almost never was, Goodbye Blues is a legitimately amazing album. In fact, their three albums have shown a progression that really marks them (particularly Greta) as good musicians.

Yet they've obviously floundered. long ramble about The Hush Sound and the failed intersect of emo and indie, in general )

The moral of this story is: don't let your prejudices stop you from listening to emo music -- a lot of it's not all that emo anyway. ;)

I do need to cast on that white cute thing...
I should be asleep, because I keep getting cranky with all these Doctor Who fanvids set around a character I am told is still a casting spoiler despite being in every single episode of the current series of the show. I keep getting cranky because I know they'll all be Jossed (Rusted?) in a couple of days and when I expand all this bandwidth downloading a fanvid or a fanmix I want it to be relevant for more than 36 hours.

...and I'll go to bed when this current vid has finished downloading. Clearly I have little self-control or respect for bandwidth limitations right now.

Bond, James Bond
Um, those of who've been on my f-list for awhile know my history with Bond, and my weakness for the new Bond, and how fabulous I think Daniel Craig is in the role. Imagine my shock when the husband and I saw Hancock yesterday, and the teaser for Quantum of Solace appeared. (There may have been actual squeeing.)

My husband just laughed at me. He does not get the whole fandom/fangirl squeeage thing, sadly. So here is the new trailer! I know some of you will be just as excited as I am. :D

notes for a Thursday morning
So, [info]slodwick just threatened to shave my head. The best part is, she's right, if she snuck up on me while I was napping she could TOTALLY get away with it. I could nap through three of the Four Horsemen.

We're aiming to get off work early today, although that's usually a recipe for a Giant Crisis of Crazy to hit, so I'm not making any plans. I'd really like to hit the library before my evening plans and get the next Donald Strachey book (I read Death Trick a couple of days ago and really liked it). We shall see.

I was thinking out a slash meta on the El this morning (it was either that or ponder Tia Tequila's love life) and all I can remember of it now is the phrase I came up with to describe bad slash: "where men are women, women are obstacles, and lube is optional."

Someone gave me a polar bear! Thank you, someone.

Two weeks from TONIGHT is the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight! I am so ridiculously excited. And it kicks off a weekend of fun for me, because my birthday is a few days later, so I'm doing a bunch of awesome stuff.

* This Wanted icon of [info]cleolinda's (not very spoilery) is my two favorite faces Angelina Jolie makes in the whole movie. The first one is all spoilers ) and the second one might as well have *flirt* following it around everywhere it goes.

* new ways to call people idiots, courtesy of a thread on otf_wank.

* I'm Miss Snark!

icons #6: Batman Returns, The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Gossip Girl
The new poster for The Dark Knight and my flist's subsequent squee about it inspired me to icon. Also, apparently you can have 35 icon slots and have it not be quite enough! Who woulda thunk it? It makes me sad every time I have to delete an RDJ icon.

4 Batman Returns
8 The Dark Knight
3 Iron Man
8 Gossip Girl
(1x8, behind-the-scenes filming, cast, Leighton Meester in Secrets of a Small Town)

Why so serious? )

Gossip Girl fic: found religion in the greeting card aisle (Blair, Chuck, Nate, Serena)
found religion in the greeting card aisle
Disclaimer: 'Gossip Girl' belongs to Cecily von Ziegesar, Josh Schwartz, and the CW. No infringement intended.
Summary: It's one thing to bang her best friend – fucking Serena is the Upper East Side equivalent of an Australian walkabout – but to then audition for the part of Romeo in someone else's tragedy is simply unacceptable. (Blair, Chuck, Nate, Serena)
Spoilers: 1x8 'Seventeen Candles'.

Her priest tells her to stop being a slut – it was a one time thing, she wants to say but she figures he probably gets that a lot – and to stay the hell away from Satan's most fashionably challenged. )

Chicago tastes GOOD

(nom nom nom)

I went to Taste of Chicago today with [info]mei_x and [info]georgia_s_brown, and I have sore legs and a full tummy. *urp* I had beignets, pierogies, Italian fries, funnel cake with ice cream, and as you can see, a pickle on a stick. I absolutely require a pickle on a stick as part of my Taste experience.

Tomorrow, barring crazycakes at work (cross your fingers), I hope to be back for more tasting! I haven't even had the fried ravioli yet!

Also, while I was uploading the pickle picture, I created a random Chicago folder in Photobucket so you can see things like the Picasso statue with a pancake birthday hat on its head and an inscription I saw at the Field Museum's Egypt exhibit.

Some happy things
The new Darkyn book came out today! I've been waiting for Val's story since the second book in the series. *is excited*

The new Janet Evanovich, Fearless Fourteen is just as excellent and funny as always. I'm completely mystified by the number of negative reviews on Amazon. I am tempted to write my own review, especially as many of these negative reviews make claims that are patently false about the book.

My favorite episode of DW S4 thus far is The Doctor's Daughter. Wow. Can't wait to watch the rest of the season. :D

My husband flies home from Japan tonight, landing in Portland at 8:30am tomorrow morning. :D
